Merhaba! Benim adım Meghan. I will be spending the 2014-2015 school year in Bolu, Turkey through Rotary Youth Exchange. I am 17 years old and recently graduated from
[hidden text] High School, so I will be taking this year as a gap year between high school and college.
Right now, I live with my parents,
[hidden text], my younger brother,
[hidden text], and my younger sister,
[hidden text]. We have a chocolate lab named Teddy and three chickens named Mr. Darcy, Penny, and Wego. I am very appreciative of all of the support from my family. They have allowed me this great opportunity to do something that I have always dreamed of doing.
From the beginning, family was one of the reasons I decided to participate in youth exchange. Both my aunt and my cousin spent a gap year in a foreign country through Rotary. My aunt was in Chile in 1993 and my cousin was in Poland in 2010. Their stories and success with the program inspired me to follow a similar path. I have always wanted to travel and explore foreign cultures and I see this year as my chance to do so.
In addition to my love of learning about other cultures, I love to run (I ran cross country and track in high school), bake, read, and simply be outdoors. I am very excited for the upcoming year and all that I will learn about Turkish culture and about myself. It will be a fantastic chance to grow and I would like to thank Rotary International and all who have helped me to begin this journey. I will be forever grateful!
