InBounds Kick-off Weekend and Host Family Information
August 22, 2015 @ 10:00 am - August 23, 2015 @ 8:30 am
The first meeting of InBounds for the 2015-16 year is coming up fast! Please read the important information below. All details will be communicated via email, our website, www.rye6690.org and our Facebook page.
Important driving information:
Route 23 near Camp Mary Orton is under major construction. Traveling north on 23 from I-270, it is impossible to turn left into CMO. You will need to go north to the next traffic light, turn left and follow a detour that takes you back to 23 South. Once you’re back on 23, heading south, the entrance to CMO will be on your right. The entrance is a big gravel area that might be easily missed. There is a sign that says “camp entrance” (or something to that effect). Once on CMO grounds, please follow “Rotary”signs”.
Inbound Orientation Weekend at Camp Mary Orton is designed to help our International Inbound students bond and connect with their peers and with American culture. RYE6690 rebound students are encouraged to attend this weekend and to aid in the immersion process for the inbound students.
Interested prospective outbound students and parents are invited to attend this Orientation weekend to connect with other interested students, our international inbounds and our local rebounds.
Bring Air Mattress, Sleeping Bag, Pillow, Bugspray, Camera, Comfortable clothes, Mary Ornton Waiver (see link below) and wear Tennis Shoes.
10:00am- Inbounds Arrive/Registration
10:15am- NEW!! Host Family Meeting with Judy Root. We would like to offer our Host Families more support and advice. So, in addition to the inbound orientation, we will have a Host-family Talk for Families hosting during the 2015-16 school year. This will start right after the students have arrived (around 10:15 am), and will run 60-90 minutes, depending how much there is to talk about. Judy has hosted at least 20 inbound students over the years, and the plan is for new and experienced host families to have time together to share ideas and to build a network of support and expertise. If this is a success, we will plan to have these host family talks at additional YE weekends. You’re not required to attend, but we would like to know how many to expect, so please tell if you plan to be there or not. After this meeting, Host Families are welcome to stay for the cookout or may return in the morning to pick up your Student.
3:30-5:30 – Student Games/Fun
5:30-6:30 – Dinner (all welcome): **It may be beneficial to bring a lawn chair. Please RSVP to this email with the number of family members you will have.
6:30 pm-8:30 am – Student Orientation/Fun/ Food – hopefully some sleep
8:30 am – Student Pickup: Promptness is appreciated!
