February Student Event/Training-Chilly Open
February 1 @ 10:30 am - 6:30 pm
The Chilly Open is an annual wintertime fundraising event, organized and run by the Westerville Sunrise Rotary Club to raise money and increase awareness for children’s charities in Central Ohio. The event, which began in 1997, takes place each year on the first Saturday in February at The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and is hosted by Woody Johnson of 92.3 WCOL. This family-oriented event has helped raise over $2.5 million for area children’s charities such as The Children’s Hunger Alliance, The Ohio Trooper’s Caring Fund, Mount Carmel St. Ann’s, W.A.R.M., The Buckeye Ranch, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Nellie’s Champions for Kids, Down Syndrome Association of Central Ohio, and the Ubumwe Community Center in Rwanda, Africa. The Westerville Sunrise Rotary Club organizes and runs the event, so 100% of the proceeds go directly to these charities.
Plan to arrive at the Zoo promptly at 10:30 a.m. We will provide drop-off and pickup locations as they become available. If staying, it may be necessary to move your vehicles from the training location to the front gate of the zoo.
Parents don’t need to stay after dropping them off; however, tickets may be purchased for $45 at http://chillyopen.org/ if you’d like to stay and enjoy the festivities and great food!
Students will be helping Rotarians tear-down and clean up after the Chilly Open event. This Rotary event benefits a number of local charities. It has a number of central Ohio restaurants serving food as well as a couple of bands/musicians performing. All students are invited to enjoy the food and music (no charge). Come hungry!! Dress warm for this event as you will be walking around the Zoo before our volunteer activities begin. Coats, gloves, hats and boots are recommended!
Pickup will be at the front gate PROMPTLY AT 6:30pm.
